We have just closed out the 2022 regular season. For those who just started playing dynasty in the past year or two, you might be getting that start up fever. If you are just hearing about dynasty and want to dip your toe into the pool, you have come to the right place. Dynasty Nerds has bevy of great resources to get you started down the path to dynasty glory.

This series will look at the top of each position. I take into account not just recent performance, but what the next 2-3 seasons might look like. Is the player in a stable situation? Is their contract set? Are they nearing an age cliff? All things you want to consider when building a dynasty. I am going to look at the quarterbacks first.

Quarterback Rankings

  1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
    • Allen is a big armed quarterback with great weapons. Oh, and he is also the goal line back. Allen recently signed a contract extension that ties him to the Bills until 2028 and he is just 26 years old.
  2. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
    • We are really splitting hairs between Mahomes and Allen. Mahomes is one of the most prolific passers in the NFL. He is locked into the Chiefs with a 10-years contract and a head coach that isn’t going anywhere. The Chiefs will be perennial contenders on the arm of Patrick Mahomes and so will dynasty managers.
  3. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
    • Hurts has been ascending the rankings and sits as QB1 on the season. The Eagles have embraced his strengths and surrounded him with weapons. Even with a career year from Miles Sanders, Hurts still has over 600 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
  4. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
    • In a season marred with injuries to multiple wide receivers and offensive linemen, Herbert is still on pace for almost 5000 yards passing and 30 touchdowns.
  5. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
    • The new Joe Cool is ruling the jungle in Cincinnati. Armed with swagger and a slew of receiving weapons, Burrow is unflappable. This is a young team and he is the unquestioned leader.
  6. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
    • Jackson’s push for a new contract has not went to plan. Bereft of weapons at receiver and the in the backfield the Raven’s production has landed on the shoulders of Jackson and tight end Mark Andrews with just moderate success. Add the injuries into the mix and it makes for a forgettable season from Jackson. Still, Lamar is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the league.
  7. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears
    • The youth movement gets underway at #7. On a team bereft of weapons Fields has flashed poise, toughness, and monumental athleticism. The Bears have improved as the season has progressed, however, losing top receiver Darnell Mooney and Fields’ left shoulder dislocation are proving to be a challenge as we close out the season.
  8. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
    • Heralded as a generational prospect coming into the league, Lawrence has been steadily improving after a disastrous rookie season. Look for veteran coach Doug Pederson to keep adding weapons and for Lawrence to keep improving.
  9. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
    • As Prescott nears 30 years old, he is in the midst of his prime. An ankle injury a couple of seasons ago has limited his rushing production. Still, with Ceedee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Dalton Schultz, passing weapons abound.
  10. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
    • Murray is sitting at QB7 in points per game prior to suffering a torn ACL. The 2022 season has exposed some tensions between Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury. With a potential coaching/scheme change and recovery from an injury I think the next couple of years could be off peak for Murray.
  11. Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns
    • Watson looks rusty after almost two season away from the huddle. Sitting pretty with a guaranteed contract look for 2023 to be a bounce back season from Watson.
  12. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
    • The 2022 season has shown us the best of and worst of Tua. With a head coach who believes in him and a stable of YAC receivers, look for Tua to be consistently productive.
  13. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers
    • Lance suffered a heartbreaking injury in what was supposed to be his breakout season. Look for the reset in 2023.
  14. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings
    • The more things change, the more they stay the same. Productive quarterback with some great weapons.
  15. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
    • The end of a great career is in sight, but I think he sticks around to complete his contract and watch the young wide receivers Watson and Doubs blossom.
  16. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders
    • There is some risk of him being on a new team next year, but he will be the starter wherever he is at.
  17. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers
    • Pickett has some moxie. I think his ceiling is peak Cousins/Carr.
  18. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
    • Another veteran looking at the sunset. As long as the elbow heals this off season I expect Stafford to be around a few more seasons.
  19. Mac Jones, New England Patriots
    • Mac is the guy in New England. The offensive coaching is a mess.
  20. Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos
    • We’ve seen Russ have slow starts in his career. Never have they lasted this long. I expect a bounce back in year two in this system.
  21. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
    • I really want to have Goff higher, but everything has to be right around him. I was this year, but there is no guarantee it will be next season.
  22. Tom Brady, Tampa Buccaneers
    • How long can he go on? I think there is at least one more year.
  23. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
    • Geno Smith has been a revelation after years of riding the pine. If he holds the job in 2023 he will have a great ROI on this ranking.
  24. Daniel Jones, New York Giants
    • Jones has played well under Brian Daboll. Is it a mirage? We will have to wait and see that the Giants do in free agency and the draft, but Jones has a lot of tools to work with.

That is the top 24 quarterbacks according to me. The 2023 rookie class will shake this up a little. Leave a comment and tell me what you think. Or stop the the Dynasty Nerds Show on the Bettor Sports Network on Thursday nights and hit the call button ant tell me in person.
