Devy Reaction: Tyler Harrell Transfer to Alabama

One of the fastest players in college football at any position has a new home. Tyler Harrell, who played last season at Louisville, will be going from one of the more problematic passing offenses in the country to one of the best. While he joins a crowded receiving room, he will have a chance to be a game-breaker on the Crimson Tide offense.

Before coming to Louisville, Tyler Harrell was a 3-star recruit who wasn’t highly sought after. He was the 135th-ranked receiver in the 2018 class and was ranked 897 overall by 247 Sports. However, he was quickly turned into the Cardinals’ better weapons upon getting to Louisville. Using his reported but unverified 4.19 speed, he was able to help out quarterback Malik Cunningham often by taking the tops off of defenses.

His final year as a Louisville Cardinal was his best, though. He saw himself get career highs across the board. He accumulated 18 receptions for a massive 523 yards and six touchdowns. Where he fits in with that explosiveness will be interesting for the Alabama offense.

Impact for Alabama

Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young will be back running the offense, but Harrell has company in the receiving corp. The Crimson Tide also brought in Georgia star Jermaine Burton, and the team also has Traeshon Holden on the roster. Harrell should be able to earn some meaningful playing time due to his speed. The worst-case if he doesn’t is he gets another 20-25 receptions, and we have seen how productive he can be with those targets and catches.

His devy stock will see an immediate jump cause of the team he is jumping to, but it is worth holding out before making a move. The Spring game has already taken place, so that won’t swell his value either. Let the pool cool down before taking a dip, but I will grab some shares of Harrell for sure when it does.

It will be interesting to see how Nick Saban juggles all of this and what it does for the Alabama offense. Bryce Young and Bill O’Brien have a flurry of treasures now to scheme with. The numbers are all that is left to figure out.
