Devy Stock Watch Week 13

GAINESVILLE, FL - NOVEMBER 12: South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler (7) looks for a receiver during the game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Florida Gators on November 12, 2022 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field in Gainesville, Fl. Week 13 had three College Playoff contenders go down. Michigan blasted Ohio State, a bad Texas A&M team beat LSU, and Clemson was upset in a shocker by South Carolina. Let’s see who impressed and disappointed in the Devy Stock watch this week3.

Stock Up

J.J. McCarthy- QB, Michigan

J.J. McCarthy has been solid as a starter but, at times, has been missing receivers and seemed to lack big play ability. That all changed against Ohio State, where he hit big plays and showed how dynamic the offense could be. This was the quarterback most Michigan fans thought they would be getting all season. It will be interesting to see if he keeps it up in the Big Ten Championship game and the playoff. Going into 2023, he has a chance to really push his stock up for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Spencer Rattler- QB, South Carolina

Just when I was ready to give up on Spencer Rattler for good, he had back-to-back performances to show why he was so highly touted. He had two interceptions but still played well against a very good Clemson defense. Is this enough to raise his stock for the NFL Draft? I am not sure, but at least it gives positive momentum for Rattler to end the season.

Rome Odunze- WR, Washington

Rome Odunze’s first year was during the COVID-shortened season, and in 2021, he had modest numbers due to poor quarterback play. With a new coach and quarterback this year, he has broken out with over 1,000 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has six games of over 100 yards receiving and is a big reason for the success of the Washington offense. Washington will have a new starting quarterback next year, so it will be interesting if Odunze returns or moves onto the NFL.

Players To Keep Eye On

Ricky Pearsall- WR, Florida

Ricky Pearsall moved on from Arizona State and transferred to Florida this year. The passing game with Anthony Richardson was up and down, but he did have two huge performances in their two biggest games, Florida State and Tennessee. Pearsall looked unstoppable against the Seminoles, and for the season, he averaged over 20 yards per catch. I would imagine he would return as the leading receiver and is someone to watch in 2023.

Cornelius Johnson- WR, Michigan

Cornelius Johnson was a top 175 recruit in 2019, and his career at Michigan has been up and down. This year he has had less production in yardage but more touchdowns. Johnson only has had four 100-yard receiving games in his career, but the game vs. Ohio State showed his potential. He has the size and speed to make it to the next level and could be an intriguing player on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Stock Down

DJ Uiagalelei – QB, Clemson

Since the Syracuse game, DJ Uiagalelei has reverted to his 2021 form. Four out of five games are under 200 yards, and he has 5 touchdowns to 5 interceptions. This all came to a head with a horrible performance vs. South Carolina, with under a 30% completion percentage. It has gotten to the point where there is at least a discussion of a permanent quarterback change.

Trevion Cooley- RB, Louisville

Trevion Cooley was a top-25 running back prospect in 2021 and had a promising freshman season at Louisville. There was a crowded backfield, but many thought he would be very involved. He has 278 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season but has not played in a game since October 29th. This weekend he entered his name into the transfer portal and will have to raise stock at a different school.
