Dynasty Jon’s Early Buy/Sells

The week 3 to 4 transition is a great time to get some deals done. @DynastyJon highlights some guys he’s looking to acquire and sell at this time!

When you’re a few weeks into the season, you’d be amazed how quickly dynasty players begin jumping to conclusions. Due to this fact, we also see many dynasty owners beginning to give up on players far too soon. If a player is off to a slow start and their fantasy team is struggling, they can panic and look to turn things around too soon. On the contrary, anyone who happens to be hot through the first few weeks can be sold for an elevated valuation.

Week 3 is around when I start to make these moves. The closer you get to the trade deadline, the fewer assets teams may possess. As such, I like to get involved early to make these deals. Here are some of the guys I’m looking to Buy and Sell….

Tee Higgins –

The Bengals’ rookie WR already seems to have a rapport with Burrow building. He’s looked promising in their first few games and has soared up the depth chart. He’s seeing targets and snaps over John Ross and Auden Tate and is likely to assume the AJ Green role in time. For whatever reason, though, there still seems to be a lack of “buzz” around Higgins. I’ve always believed in his talent and think he has WR1 upside. Given the lack of “buzz,” now would be a good time to buy before his value soars.

Denzel Mims –

The Jets are a disaster. Don’t let Gase scare you from investing in the young assets on this team. I’d be shocked if he’s there in 2021, and this offense can only get better. Mims has been quiet due to injury, as he was placed on IR with a hamstring issue. The Jets invested a 2nd round pick in Mims, and he had excellent big-play ability at Baylor.

Darnell Mooney –

This is a slightly deeper dive. Mooney was the Bears’ 5th round pick, and you’d be shocked to see him selected before the 4th round in any 2020 rookie draft. I know there are many Anthony Miller fans out there, but I’m not one of them. Mooney is getting more snaps and more targets through the first few weeks. He seems to have established some connection with Trubisky and was also getting looks when Foles came into the game. He doesn’t have name value currently and may be on waivers in shallower leagues.

James Robinson –

Now, James Robinson has looked incredible. That being said, his latest performances are commanding a high price tag. You’re seeing him go for a 2021 1st in many leagues. Still, I prefer Travis Etienne, Najee Harris, Jamarr Chase, Rondale Moore, Chuba Hubbard, Rashod Bateman, Kylin Hill, and Jaylen Waddle, and Devonta Smith. In Superflex formats, you’re also dealing with the likes of Lawrence and Fields. I understand if you want to keep him as a contender, as I think he will have RB1/RB2 value for the rest of the season.

It’s worth noting that since 2003, 12 UDFA RBs have finished with a top 24 season. Those RBs only averaged two top-24 seasons. The long-term potential doesn’t seem to be there. This is the definition of a #2-3 year window.

Myles Gaskin –

In similar fashion to Robinson, we’re coming off a Thursday night matchup that saw Gaskin get a large workload on the national stage. Keeping this one short and sweet, he’s simply not talented. He’s a sub-par RB, but you may be able to grind a 2nd or 3rd round pick out of him given the usage.

Robby Anderson –

Expectations for DJ Moore were at an all-time high during the offseason. Those expectations have not been met, however. Out of the blue, Robby Anderson has exploded in a vein similar to what we expected from Moore. Through the first few weeks, he has shown a proven connection with Bridgewater and is performing at a WR1 level. I don’t believe this is sustainable, as we have seen Anderson’s streaky nature throughout his career. It won’t be long before there’s a role reversal, and I would be happy to take a 2nd rounder for Anderson.
