Getting Defensive: IDP Start/Sit Week 13

@Glosser13 is sending you off to the playoffs in style. One IDP start/sit from every game this week in the biggest weekly IDP article this year.

Hey Nerds! As we continue to grow our IDP content here at Dynasty Nerds, we are excited to bring you a weekly start and sit for the 2020 NFL season. The weekly recommendations are based on our default scoring IDP 123. Players will be broken down by the three major positions (DL, LB, DB), with five to six defensive players per week. It’s common knowledge that you start your studs every week, which doesn’t change on the defensive side of the ball. This article will help you make the more difficult decisions before hitting submit on Sunday morning much easier on you.

There’s just too much at stake in the final game of the regular season. I blessed my readers and the IDP Nerds with one player from each matchup this week. Hope this helps steer you in the right direction when making those tough lineup decision’ this week. Here we go.

New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons

Trey Hendrickson DE New Orleans Saints

Trey Hendrickson is coming off his worst game of the season, putting up a 0 when some dynasty managers needed him the most. We can’t forget that Hendrickson still is 2nd to only Aaron Donald in sacks this season. The Saints play the Falcons for the second time in three weeks.

The last meeting, Hendrickson racked up two sacks and totaled 21 fantasy points. The Falcons allowed eight sacks in their last meeting with the Saints, including seven to defensive linemen. Expecting a big bounce back game from Trey Hendrickson in Week 13.

Cleveland Browns vs Tennessee Titans

Kevin Byard FS, DB Tennessee Titans

The 2017 First Team All-Pro Safety Kevin Byard has been on fire for IDP managers. Byard has had at least 11 fantasy points in seven straight games and finds himself as a top-end DB3 right now in IDP123 scoring with a very realistic shot to climb his way up into the DB2 conversation by season’s end.

Kevin Byard has finished top-ten in the NFL in interceptions in each of the last three seasons. In 2020 he’s showing his versatility and racking up fantasy points on large volume tackle games. Byard has finished with six tackles or more in seven straight games. This week Byard and the Titans will play a Cleveland Browns team that you will have to go back to Week 6 of 2016 to find the last time he produced under double-digit fantasy points against them.

Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears

Danny Trevathan LB Chicago Bears

As a dynasty IDP manager of Danny Trevathan, I can surely call him one of the unsung heroes. He constantly delivers safe fantasy production and just continues to fly under the radar. Trevathan has finished with 12+ fantasy points in five of his last six games and is coming off his second double-digit tackle game of the season. While Roquan Smith is the clear LB to roster in dynasty leagues, we can’t forget the productive old guy (he’s only 30), Danny Trevathan.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Miami Dolphins

Carl Lawson DL Cincinnati Bengals

Carl Lawson has been far too inconsistent this season for him to be trusted in what could be your make or break game of the season. Lawson has only recorded three double-digit performances this season. They have all been very sack dependent because of Lawson’s low tackle floor. Sam Hubbard is back and has created more depth on the defensive line, limiting opportunities for Lawson to do what he does best, and that’s just rush the QB. The inconsistency of snaps played for the former Auburn Tiger has left IDP managers wanting more.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Minnesota Vikings

Harrison Smith DB Minnesota Vikings

It has been a tale of two seasons for the former Notre Dame alumni. Harrison Smith failed to record six tackles or more just once in his first six games. Over his last five games, he’s eclipsed that mark in all but one game. Smith has the second most interceptions of his career (3) and will play a Jaguars team that allowed two separate safeties to have two interceptions each two weeks ago. This should be a big week for Harrison Smith, and I would expect a big performance against a dreadful Jaguars offense.

Indianapolis Colts vs Houston Texans

Tyrell Adams LB Houston Texans

Every once in a while, you find an absolute steal on waivers, especially in IDP leagues. In 2020 Tyrell Adams has been that guy. Tyrell Adams was forced into a starting role after the injury to Benadrick McKinney, and he has flourished. Adams has not finished a game he started with less than ten fantasy points this season and has three huge weeks of 20, 29, and 40 fantasy points. Tyrell Adams has been extremely productive playing alongside Zack Cunningham. Adams led the entire NFL in tackles last week with 17.

Las Vegas Raiders vs New York Jets

Nick Kwiatkoski LB Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders linebacker unit was completely revamped this off-season, and much to my surprise, the most productive player of that group, has not been Cory Littleton. Instead, both Nick Kwiatkoski and Nicholas Morrow have been the players you want on your dynasty teams this season. Nicholas Morrow has filled in well as both Kwiatkoski and Littleton have both missed time this season.

Cory Littleton’s return from the COVID list will likely directly affect Morrow’s value a bit more. Kwiatkoski is on pace to set career highs in tackles. Kwiatkoski has been solid for IDP managers finishing with ten points or more in seven straight games, including three 20+ point performances. The Raiders will play the Jets this week, a matchup that should be very good for the Raiders LBs.

New York Giants vs Seattle Seahawks

Carlos Dunlap DL Seattle Seahawks

The former Florida Gator has 3.5 of his 4.5 sacks on the season since coming over to the Seahawks in a trade. Carlos Dunlap has 2.5 sacks in his last two games and has a plus matchup this week against the New York Giants. I’m worried the foot injury that Dunlap suffered in Week 12 can potentially keep him out Sunday as the Seahawks likely won’t need him to beat an underwhelming Giants offense.

Carlos Dunlap has already missed practice on Wednesday this week, and although the tests didn’t reveal any serious damage, I think there’s a good chance he will sit this week or play limited snaps. After the foot injury in Week 12, Dunlap was only able to play 39 snaps, his lowest since joining the Seahawks. The Seahawks will likely be smart with their best pass rusher, knowing they will need him for the huge division matchups in both Week 16 and 17.

Los Angeles Rams vs Arizona Cardinals

Troy Reeder LB Los Angeles Rams

If you haven’t already, you would be doing yourself a huge favor by grabbing Troy Reeder off waivers. Rams stud IDP LB Micah Kiser has been sent to IR, and Reeder will be his replacement. Kiser was having the best year of his career with 77 tackles already, but his backup is no slouch.

Troy Reeder has played 48 snaps or more twice this season. His point totals in those two games are 44 and 29. It’s rare this late in the season you can find production like this just waiting for you on waivers, but you must take advantage when this opportunity comes. Troy Reeder could be a league winner in IDP123 scoring down the stretch.

New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Chargers

Kenneth Murray LB Los Angeles Chargers

This is not intended to bash Kenneth Murray at all because his rookie season for IDP managers has been a successful one. Murray has 67 tackles and 118 fantasy points this season, which is very impressive, especially for the Chargers. In recent years the Chargers have had one of the most inconsistent LB groups in IDP leagues.

The Chargers rookie LB was benched in Week 9 against the Raiders, and things haven’t been right since. Over the past six games of the season, Murray has only topped double-digit fantasy points twice and has failed to register more than five tackles in a game in five of six games. The wins and losses are just far too important right now to play Kenneth Murray, who just hasn’t been a good performer.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Green Bay Packers

Alex Singleton LB Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles offense is so bad it’s just forcing the defense to play a large number of snaps. Alex Singleton continued his double-digit fantasy point streak to six games in Week 12. Since taking over as a starter, Singleton has played 64 snaps or more in four straight games, and his production has been great. At this point, just keep putting him in your lineup until he disappoints you. That is unlikely to be anytime soon.

Denver Broncos vs Kansas City Chiefs

Daniel Sorensen DB Kansas City Chiefs

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shown the DB8 some love, so here we go. Daniel Sorensen is still on waiver wires in a few leagues I’ve come across this week. That simply blows my mind. Sorensen hasn’t finished with less than 11 fantasy points since Week 3. Sorensen has had at least four tackles or more in all but one game this season. His safe tackle floor combined with a career year in big plays has him on the verge of being the best waiver pickup of 2020. That’s saying a lot because there have been some very good pickups in IDP leagues this year. If you’re able to put Sorensen in your lineup this year in the dynasty playoffs, feel lucky and ride this hot streak until it flames out.

Washington Football Team vs Pittsburgh Steelers

Kamren Curl DB Washington Football Team

The Washington Football team may have found a very good one in Rookie Kamren Curl. The former Arkansas Razorback has been a monster since taking over for the injured Landon Collins. It certainly helps Washington’s defense plays a lot of snaps each week, but regardless, Curl has delivered. In the past four games, Kamren Curl has collected 37 tackles and two sacks on his way to 79 fantasy points. This guy might have a future as a stud IDP beyond 2020 but for now, make sure you are keeping him in your lineups.

Buffalo Bills vs San Francisco 49ers

Dre Greenlaw LB San Francisco 49ers

A huge reason why Kwon Alexander was traded from the defending NFC Champions was the play of Dre Greenlaw. Greenlaw stepped in the SAM linebacker role during 2019 and has been a rock-solid IDP producer ever since. Fred Warner gets all the credit for being one of the best in the game, and deservingly so, but Dre Greenlaw is a scoring machine for IDP managers.

Since returning from injury in Week 5, he has produced seven straight games with at least 12 fantasy points or more. During that time, Greenlaw has finished every game with at least five tackles or more. Greenlaw is coming off an 87-tackle season in 2019, playing in all 16 games. He will roughly be around the same tackle numbers this season in just 14 games played. While others are looking to trade for the bigger name LBs in your IDP leagues, don’t ever be afraid to take the upside players like Greenlaw, who can get you close to the same production at only a fraction of the cost.

Dallas Cowboys vs Baltimore Ravens

Aldon Smith DL Dallas Cowboys

You may think I’m crazy recommending sitting the DL22 in IDP123 scoring, and honestly, maybe I am, but the numbers just don’t justify me being able to start Aldon Smith this late in the season. Aldon Smith has five sacks on the year, with four coming in the first three games. Speaking of those first three games, Smith was able to rack up 64 fantasy points in two huge weeks. He only has 130 on the season.

The scoring in weeks one and three have accounted for 49% of his total fantasy points this season. Aldon Smith has one sack since week three and has only managed one double-digit performance in that time. The play of both Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory has hurt Smith’s production.

The Wrap up

This is it Nerds. We have reached the final week of the regular season. I hope your dynasty championship dreams are still alive, and mostly I’m glad you’re still with me digging into IDP content. I’m very excited to finish out the season and hope you all can collect some new hardware to add to your trophy case. If not, bragging rights will have to do. Good luck this week, and I look forward to next week when the real games start.
