Welcome back, IDP Nerds! With the NFL Draft and free agency officially behind us, it’s time to reset the dynasty landscape with my updated 2026 Dynasty IDP Rankings and Tiers. Every offseason brings major movement in player value, especially on the defensive side of the ball. These rankings are built with long-term dynasty value in mind using the Dynasty Nerds’ preferred IDP scoring settings while still balancing immediate fantasy production for managers looking to compete right away.

This year’s rankings are broken into 10 tiers to better illustrate the value gaps between players and help dynasty managers identify where positional drop-offs begin in startup drafts. Let’s dive into the 2026 Dynasty IDP Rankings and break down the top defensive assets in dynasty fantasy football.

Dynasty IDP Rankings | Top 275 Players

Tier 1 | Elite Cornerstones

Tier 1 Rankings

2Travis HunterDB23JAXDB1
3Will Anderson Jr.DL24HOUDL2
4Carson SchwesingerLB23CLELB1
5Cedric GrayLB23TENLB2

Tier 1 is made up of the elite cornerstone assets in IDP dynasty fantasy football heading into the 2026 season. What stands out most about this group is its age profile, with five of the six players 25 or younger. These are the types of players you build your dynasty rosters aroundβ€”difference makers who can anchor your IDP lineup for years to come while still carrying overall DL1, LB1, or DB1 upside. If you’re investing heavily in IDP during startup drafts, this is the tier you want to target.

Despite some offseason coachspeak surrounding Travis Hunter and a potentially limited offensive role, it doesn’t move the needle much for me from a dynasty perspective. Hunter is simply a unique asset in fantasy football. He has the ability to shadow top wide receivers defensively while also contributing as a weapon on offense, giving him upside that no other defensive player can match. As long as he maintains DB eligibility, he remains one of the most valuable and exciting IDP assets.

Aidan Hutchinson headlines the elite EDGE rushers in this tier alongside Will Anderson Jr. and Maxx Crosby. While none of them reached the massive 400-point season Myles Garrett posted last year, all three consistently produced high-end fantasy numbers and averaged over 17 fantasy points per game in 2025. Elite pass rushers remain the safest dynasty investments in IDP leagues because of their weekly ceiling and long-term positional value.

The linebacker youth movement is what really makes this tier exciting. Carson Schwesinger and Cedric Gray both eclipsed 300 fantasy points last season and already look like future cornerstone LB1s for dynasty managers. Young linebackers with proven production are difficult to acquire once they break out, which makes both players premium dynasty assets entering the 2026 season.

Tier 2 | Prime Producers

Tier 2 Rankings

14Nik BonittoDL26DENDL8
15Roquon SmithLB29BALLB6
16Nick BosaDL28SFDL9

Tier 2 is highlighted by the overall IDP1 from last season, Myles Garrett. Despite his historic 400-point season in 2025, Garrett narrowly misses Tier 1 because he’s entering his age-30 season. Even with the age factor, there’s little concern about his immediate production after averaging over 24 fantasy points per game last year. He’s joined by elite pass rushers Micah Parsons and Jared Verse, who both finished as top-24 defensive linemen last season. Dynasty managers continue to prioritize elite EDGE rushers, and this tier is loaded with difference makers at the DL position.

The linebacker talent in Tier 2 is just as exciting. Jack Campbell is coming off a breakout season in which he finished as the LB2 overall and became one of only five linebackers to average over 20 fantasy points per game. Detroit rewarded him with a lucrative extension this offseason, solidifying him as the Lions’ green-dot linebacker for years to come.

Rookie linebacker Sonny Styles also cracks Tier 2 before even playing an NFL snap. IDP managers are already familiar with the elite athletic profile and production he displayed during his final two seasons at Ohio State. Landing in an ideal situation only boosts his dynasty value, and he already looks like one of the top long-term linebacker assets in IDP fantasy football.

Every player in this tier is capable of producing Tier 1 fantasy numbers. If you miss out on the elite cornerstone assets early in your startup drafts, there’s no reason to panic. This tier still provides dynasty managers with high-end production and multiple players who could easily finish the season ranked among the overall top IDPs in fantasy football.

Tier 3 | Rising Talents

Tier 3 Rankings

29Caleb DownsDB26DALDB4
30Blake CashmanLB30MINLB13
31Laiatu LatuDL21INDDL14
32Nick BoltonLB26KCLB14

Tier 3 is where dynasty managers fully embracing rookie fever will feel right at home. This tier features several young linebackers and defensive backs whose dynasty stock has already soared before they’ve played a significant number of NFL snaps. Arvell Reese, CJ Allen, and Caleb Downs all landed in situations that could provide immediate IDP value, making them highly attractive targets in startup drafts. The challenge for dynasty managers is balancing future upside with proven production. Investing heavily in this tier often means passing on established fantasy producers in favor of younger players with a much smaller NFL sample size.

Kyle Hamilton and Nick Emmanwori headline this tier as rare defensive backs worthy of early startup draft capital. Both players eclipsed 200 fantasy points last season while combining for eight games of 20 or more fantasy points. Even more impressive, both delivered 30-plus point performances, showcasing the type of weekly ceiling that is difficult to find at the DB position.

The defensive line talent in this tier is equally intriguing. Abdul Carter, Tuli Tuipulotu, and Laiatu Latu are all young pass rushers with elite pedigrees who appear to be on the verge of breaking out. Dynasty managers are always searching for the next wave of impact EDGE players, and acquiring productive pass rushers before they reach their peak value can create a significant advantage. There is always risk in investing in defensive linemen under 25, but if these players take the next step in 2026, the reward could far outweigh the cost.

Tier 4 | Steady Starters

46Zack BaunLB29PHILB20
47Jeffery SimmonsDL28TENDL20
48Barrett CarterLB23CINLB21

Tier 4 is filled with steady starters who can help dynasty managers compete for a championship in 2026. As expected, the linebacker position continues to dominate this tier, accounting for nearly half of the players. Reliable LB production remains one of the biggest advantages in IDP fantasy football, making this a great tier to target if you waited on the position early in your startup draft.

This tier also offers an excellent blend of proven veterans and ascending young talent. Defensive back is typically a position managers wait on, but Nick Cross, Brian Branch, and Derwin James make a strong case to buck that trend after each averaged over 14 fantasy points per game last season. Finding consistent weekly production at DB isn’t always easy, and all three have the ability to provide dependable fantasy production throughout the season.

Several players in this tier will also be suiting up for new teams in 2026, including Zaire Franklin, Trey Hendrickson, and Jaelan Phillips. While changing teams can create uncertainty, all three have established themselves as reliable fantasy producers over the years. A new system and a fresh start shouldn’t diminish their dynasty value, and if league mates are hesitant because of the offseason movement, this could be an excellent opportunity to buy proven production at a discount.

Tier 5 | Productive Veterans & Young Fliers

Tier 5 marks the halfway point of the rankings and is one of my favorite tiers for dynasty managers building toward the future. The average age of this group is just 25.6 years old, offering a strong blend of upside and long-term value. By this point in your startup drafts, you’re typically deciding between low-end DL2s, high-end LB3s, and young players whose dynasty value could skyrocket this season. This is where dynasty managers have to decide if they’re willing to invest in talent now before the rest of the league catches on.

This tier is highlighted by first-round NFL Draft picks David Bailey, Dillon Thieneman, and Rueben Bain Jr. All three were selected early because of their ability to make impact plays and project as long-term building blocks for their respective defenses. It’s no surprise they’re already being selected in the first few rounds of IDP rookie drafts this offseason. If you’re looking to start a youth movement on the defensive side of your dynasty roster, this tier provides several players who could see their value rise significantly over the course of the 2026 season.

Tier 6 is where dynasty managers who loaded up on offense early in their startup drafts may start to feel the pressure. Defensive linemen and linebackers account for over 80% of this tier, and by the time these players are off the board, the top 33 options at both positions have already been selected. If you’ve waited this long to address your IDP roster, now is the time to start adding impact defenders before the talent pool begins to thin out.

This tier is highlighted by several young players whose dynasty value could rise significantly over the next year. Chop Robinson and Nic Scourton both have the upside to make a major leap in ADP by this time next offseason if they take the next step in their development. At linebacker, veterans Tremaine Edmunds and Robert Spillane continue to provide excellent value despite both missing multiple games last season. Even with the missed time, they each finished as top-30 linebackers in fantasy points per game, reminding dynasty managers that proven production still matters.

Despite being labeled “Dynasty Bench Stashes,” don’t overlook the value in this tier. This is one of the deepest groups in the rankings and offers dynasty managers plenty of upside as the startup draft enters the middle rounds. If you’re looking to stockpile players who could become some of the biggest steals of your draft, this is the tier to attack. A strong season from several of these players could result in a significant jump in dynasty value by this time next year.

The players that stand out most in this tier are second-year defenders expected to step into much larger roles in 2026. Cody Simon, Kevin Winston Jr., and Malachi Moore all flashed their upside late last season, posting multiple performances of 17 or more fantasy points after earning increased playing time. Those are exactly the types of players dynasty managers should be targeting before the breakout happens.

On the other side of the spectrum, veterans like Alex Singleton, T.J. Edwards, and Budda Baker continue to offer dependable production despite being on the back nine of their careers. Depending on your roster construction, this tier offers dynasty managers their last chance to either invest in ascending young talent or lean on proven veterans capable of helping compete for a championship.

Tier 8 is filled with players who can still provide meaningful fantasy production while offering enough upside to increase their dynasty value. At this point in your startup drafts, you’re looking for players who can outperform their current ADP and become reliable contributors for your roster. There are still plenty of veterans capable of producing immediately, along with younger players who could take a significant step forward during the 2026 season.
