Man Coverage: IDP Start/Sit Week 10

@Glosser13 is here with Week 10 #IDPNerds start/sit

Welcome back IDP Nerds, to another installment of man coverage where we discuss the start and sit options every week. Last week was a rough one for dynasty managers both offensively and defensively. Some of the most reliable fantasy producers had an off week, and managers suffered because of that. It’s a long season, and things like this happen, but we have to keep moving forward. In Week 9, there was only a 30.77% accuracy, bringing us to 64.17% on the season.

We will be making our recommendations based on weekly consensus PPR rankings from FantasyPros. Here is our squad and the position groups they will be covering to help you each week. Follow us, friend us, tweet us.

The Team doing Start/Sits

Here we go with the Week 10 matchups.

Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys

A.J. Terrell DB Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons second-year DB looks like he’s back to playing as he did as a rookie. A.J. Terrell has had concussion issues this season but has made his way back; he’s recorded 11 fantasy points or more in three of his last four games. This week, the Atlanta Falcons secondary will face a test as they head to Dallas to meet a disgruntled Cowboys team. Dallas was upset by the Denver Broncos last week while only possessing the ball for less than 19 minutes. In Week 8, the Dallas offense gave up 7 tackles to four different DBs against the Vikings secondary. A.J. Terrell averages 4.14 tackles per game and is in line to see a high volume of targets in Week 10.

New Orleans Saints @ Tennessee Titans

Marcus Davenport DL New Orleans Saints

The Saints defensive line received a big boost with the return of Marcus Davenport. The Saints pass rusher has been hyped up over his first three seasons. Unfortunately, he has not yet lived up to that and has dealt with injuries in each of those seasons. Davenport has registered 48 fantasy points in just four games this season, at an average of 12 fantasy points per game. Marcus Davenport and the Saints’ defense match up well with the Tennessee Titans, who have allowed the third-most sacks (27) this season.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts

Damien Wilson LB Jacksonville Jaguars

Damien Wilson joined the Jaguars this off-season as a free agent and has been a pleasant surprise for dynasty managers. Wilson stepped into a starting role with the departure of LB Joe Schobert. Wilson has averaged 51.6 snaps per game (78%), the highest of his career. The veteran LB has only posted two games under double-digit fantasy points this season and is on pace for his first-ever 200+ point season. Last week the starting linebackers against the Colts offense accounted for 18 tackles. This has the makings of a plus matchup for the Jacksonville Jaguars defense.

Cleveland Browns @ New England Patriots

Ja’Whaun Bentley LB New England Patriots

There’s no secret that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick hates fantasy football and at times, his player usage is evidence of that. IDP managers have treated the New England linebackers like offensive-only managers have treated New England RBs. If the value is there, it’s certainly worth a shot but depending on them for consistent production is bad business. Ja’Whaun Bentley has had some good and some poor games this season; he’s played more than 37 snaps in a game just twice this season. The usage isn’t there, and IDP managers shouldn’t be trusting enough to start him or any Patriots LB in your lineup.

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets

Matt Milano LB Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills LB makes his second straight appearance as a recommended start despite a disappointing performance in Week 9. Matt Milano has major upside for the rest of the season if he can remain healthy. The Bills’ LBs have been highly consistent under defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier over the past few seasons. The former fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has been a big part of the Buffalo pass defense, especially when matching up with running backs and tight ends. Last week the New York Jets targeted RBs and TEs 17 times. Milano should have a solid bounce-back game for dynasty managers in Week 10.

Detroit Lions @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Alex Anzalone LB Detroit Lions

Alex Anzalone saw his streak of double-digit performances end in Week 8 before the team’s bye week. The Lions LB is averaging 12 fantasy points per game this season, including six straight double-digit games. The Pittsburgh Steelers allowed eight linebackers to register at least seven tackles over their past four games, including three of them to have double-digit tackles. Anzalone has played over 500 snaps this season, averaging 62.6 snaps per game. The Lions’ defense is likely to see a heavy dose of rookie RB Najee Harris allowing a high volume of opportunities for tackles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Washington Football Team

Jamin Davis LB Washington Football Team

The Washington rookie LB hasn’t been a reliable IDP this season. Davis has only posted double-digit performances twice this season and hasn’t been effective with the snaps he’s earned. In most of the games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense this season, DBs have had more consistent games than LBs have. The former Kentucky LB is averaging just 4.25 tackles per game. IDP managers should steer clear of starting him anytime soon.

Carolina Panthers @ Arizona Cardinals

Markus Golden LB, DL Arizona Cardinals

Markus Golden has been one of the hottest players in fantasy football over the past month. Golden has fantasy performances of 28, 28, 9, and 35 points over his past four games. The Cardinals pass rusher has stepped up in the absence of J.J. Watt with seven sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in the past month. Golden had one of the most productive games in recent memory with three sacks on just 28 snaps in a blowout win last week. The Cardinals pass rushers will play the Carolina Panthers, who will be starting a new QB and have allowed the eight most sacks (25) in the NFL this season. IDP managers can start Golden with confidence in Week 10.

Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Chargers

Anthony Barr LB Minnesota Vikings

In one of the weirdest things I’ve seen in all my time playing IDP fantasy football, Anthony Barr played 98 snaps in Week 9 without recording a tackle. Barr has been decent since returning from injury in Week 5, recording double-digit performances in two of the last four games. The veteran LB has been absent from practice this week, but Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has called it just ‘rest,’ it does sound like he will play this week. Anthony Barr is tough to trust for IDP managers after posting such a poor performance last week.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Denver Broncos

Javon Hargrave DL Philadelphia Eagles

Javon Hargrave started the season red hot with five straight games of 14 fantasy points or more. Since that time, he has finished four consecutive games with 8 points or less. Hargrave has been dealing with injuries that have impacted his snap counts over the past few weeks. The Eagles pass rusher will have one of the easiest matchups he will face for the rest of the season this week against the Denver Broncos. Denver has allowed 29 sacks this season, the second-most in the NFL. The Broncos gave up four sacks in a game they dominated last week. It’s a pretty safe bet that Javon Hargrave finds his way back to double-digit fantasy numbers in Week 10.

Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers

Darnell Savage DB Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers’ secondary has been very productive this season. However, predicting the consistent performer weekly is difficult. Darnell Savage has been one of the most unpredictable performers this season, with four games under 10 points and five games over 10 points. Savage is averaging just 3.4 tackles per game. His tackle floor isn’t safe enough to warrant being a reliable starter. IDP managers can find better matchups on the waiver wire and should look for those players this week instead of playing Savage in a less ideal matchup.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Las Vegas Raiders

L’Jarius Sneed DB Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City CB has been great for IDP managers this season. Sneed has racked up 119 fantasy points in just nine games; he only played nine games last season, registering 136 fantasy points. He’s on pace for his best season and has picked up a sack, interception, forced fumble, and fumble recovery already this season. This season, the Las Vegas Raiders have allowed some big games to defensive backs, including three interceptions in their last two games. Sneed should continue his stellar play against the Raiders, a game that the Kansas City Chiefs have to win.

Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

Talanoa Hufanga DB San Francisco 49ers

This is a long shot, but he was one of my favorite rookies pre-draft, so I need to take my chance to stay on brand. Hufanga has played 70 snaps in each of the last two games, recording nine tackles and 18 fantasy points. In the last two games the Rams have played, they have allowed DBs as the leading tacklers. The 49ers will likely be in for a long day defending the Rams passing attack. Hufanga will need to do his damage as a high-volume tackler. If the rookie DB can continue to improve, he may be in for a larger role as the season moves along.

The Wrap-up

That will do it for this week’s Dynasty Nerds. I hope you guys are prepared for the back half of the season. Every lineup decision becomes more important as we stack up more wins before the playoffs.
