Welcome back, Dynasty IDP Nerds, to another edition of Man Coverage. We break down the start and sit options for those tough lineup decisions you have every week. A very big bounce-back week in Week 5, predicting 12 of 13 correct players for a 92.3% accuracy. Season accuracy total is now at 66.6%. Let’s take a look at the Week 6 matchups.
Check out all of the start/sit columns from DynastyNerds.com.
QB: Jayson Snyder @Spydes78
RB: Gage Bridford @GbridgfordNFL
WR: Tristan Cook @Tristancook_
TE: Jake Oliver @DarthDbacks
FLEX: Ethan Wyatt @ethanAwyatt
IDP: Jon Glosser @Glosser13
Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Jevon Holland DB Miami Dolphins
If last week was a sign of things to come, we should expect former Oregon Duck safety Jevon Holland to move into an every-down role. Holland played his most snaps of the season (72) in Week 5 against Tampa Bay. He’s only been in on 64% of defensive snaps for the Dolphins this season but his 97% in week 5 is a welcoming sign to IDP managers. The Jacksonville Jaguars have given up at least 6 tackles to a starting safety in every game this season. There’s a bit of risk here, but managers should expect a safe floor for fantasy production if Holland takes the every-down role.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Washington Football Team
Tyrann Mathieu DB Kansas City Chiefs
The Honey Badger is one of the most respected defensive backs in all of football. After missing Week 1 due to Covid-19, he has been on a mission. Mathieu has 76 points over his last four games. Last week was his first game under 10 fantasy points since returning. This was largely due to the defense only being on the field for 57 snaps against the Bills. The Kansas City Chiefs defensive leader is averaging 5 tackles per game over his past four games while collecting two interceptions and a defensive touchdown.
Los Angeles Rams @ New York Giants
Azeez Ojulari LB New York Giants
In my experience, gambling against rookie pass-rushers typically backfires, but this just isn’t a good matchup. The New York Giants are battling so many injuries on both offense and defense. They will play the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams in Week 6. The Rams have allowed the fewest sacks (4) in the league through the first five games. The Giants rookie pass-rusher has collected seven tackles for 11 fantasy points over his past two games. If you’re desperate, I wouldn’t say he’s a must sit but you shouldn’t be counting on a big game from the former Georgia Bulldog this week.
Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts
Al-Quadin Muhammad DL Indianapolis Colts
A sleeper start this week with the Colts defensive front still dealing with early-season injuries. Al-Quadin Muhammad is coming off a season-high in snaps (60) on Monday Night Football. The former Miami Hurricane has two sacks in his first five games. His career-high in a season is 3. This season, the Houston Texans have allowed 12 sacks, with 5 of those coming in the last two games. In leagues where you may be a bit weak at DL, this can be a sneaky play this week in a plus matchup.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Detroit Lions
Derrick Barnes LB Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions moved on from veteran LB Jamie Collins a few weeks back to allow opportunities for their rookie from Purdue, Derrick Barnes. Barnes has made the most of these limited snaps. He has turned in back-to-back double-digit performances despite playing less than 50% of snaps in both games. The Cincinnati Bengals gave up an average of 20.6 fantasy points to the Green Bay Packers starting linebackers in Week 5. The Detroit Lions rookie should have a chance to make it three straight 10+ point fantasy performances in Week 6.
Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears
Alec Ogletree LB Chicago Bears
Alec Ogletree has been a solid spot start LB through the first five games. The former Georgia Bulldogs LB has filled in nicely in the absence of Danny Trevathan, finishing with 39 fantasy points over the past two games. Danny Trevathan returned last week, only playing 15% of snaps in his first game. Alec Ogletree saw his snaps dip down to 52%, his lowest of the season. It should only be a matter of time before Trevathan takes over as the LB2 next to Roquon Smith as he did last season. Ogletree had a nice run over the past month, but unless Danny Trevathan doesn’t bounce back from his injury, there will be zero reasons to keep the veteran LB on your roster.
Los Angeles Chargers @ Baltimore Ravens
Kyzir White LB Los Angeles Chargers
Kyzir White is the last man standing for the Los Angeles Chargers at the LB position. Kenneth Murray is already out a few games, and now Dru Tranquill enters Week 6 with a questionable tag. White has played at least 65% of snaps in every game this season. The Chargers LB has at least 9 fantasy points in every game this season and averages 16.5 fantasy points per game in road games. The Chargers will head to Baltimore in an early-season game that could have very big implications on the AFC playoff picture.
Minnesota Vikings @ Carolina Panthers
Jeremy Chinn DB Carolina Panthers
It’s a bit surprising that I have to put a player that we all considered a stud in this column. The facts are that he hasn’t played that way through the first month of the season. Jeremy Chinn has been very average to start the season after recording over 250 fantasy points as a rookie. Chinn recorded just one double-digit performance over his first three games, and he has recorded 21.60 points over his last two games. The Panthers’ safety has low tackle numbers after averaging 7.7 per game in 2020. Shaq Thompson will be out a few weeks, Chinn may be in line for a boost in tackle numbers this week against the Minnesota Vikings.
Arizona Cardinals @ Cleveland Browns
Anthony Walker Jr. LB Cleveland Browns
Anthony Walker returned to the Browns with a 73% snap share in week 5. In two games this season, Walker has 26 fantasy points averaging 13 points per game. Cleveland Browns rookie LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah played 91% of snaps last week and seems to be earning more snaps as the season moves along. The combo of Walker and JOK should be reliable fantasy producers, something the Browns haven’t had at the LB position in recent years. Anthony Walker is averaging 8 tackles per game in his first two contests. The Arizona Cardinals gave up an average of 6 tackles to each of the 49ers starting LBs in Week 5.
Las Vegas Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Johnathan Abram DB Las Vegas Raiders
Johnathan Abram was in the IDP first-quarter report as the top buy-low candidate at DB. Abram has one of the safest tackle floors of any DB in IDP fantasy football in 2021. The former Mississippi State standout has 10 fantasy points or more in every game this season and at least 6 tackles in every game. Last week, the Denver Broncos gave up 28 tackles combined to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ four starting defensive backs. Dynasty managers should feel confident rolling out Johnathan Abram this week as he continues his blazing hot start to the season.
Dallas Cowboys @ New England Patriots
Keanu Neal LB Dallas Cowboys
IDP managers had hoped with the release of LB Jaylon Smith that the rotation would be a bit more predictable. After one week, that hasn’t been the case. It appears that Keanu Neal (50%) and Leighton Vander-Esch (46%) are going to continue to split snaps playing alongside rookie Micah Parsons. Keanu Neal should be favored in pass situations with his background as a defensive back, but at this point, it’s too inconsistent to tell who will have the opportunities to score the most fantasy points. Fantasy football doesn’t need to be this difficult go with more proven players to help you secure a win this week.
Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Devin Bush LB Pittsburgh Steelers
Devin Bush is still a very attractive LB in dynasty leagues. However, he hasn’t been the same player he was as a rookie. This has mostly been due to injuries. Bush missed most of last season to injury and has been dealing with a groin issue this season. In his two healthy games this season, Bush has 40 fantasy points, playing at least 65 snaps in each game with 16 total tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack.
The Steelers LB re-aggravated a groin issue in Week 5 but has practiced in full this week, so it appears he will be active Sunday Night. The groin issue forced him to only play 42% of snaps in Week 5. The Steelers won’t have the luxury to sit their star LB if they want to be a playoff team. Bush will likely be active but just how effective he will be is a huge question. In his last two games, he has 7 tackles total but has managed a sack in each game which has saved IDP managers. Devin Bush isn’t as much of a guarantee this week as he is when he’s fully healthy, so dynasty managers should be cautious, especially with a late-night primetime game on the schedule this week.
Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans
David Long Jr. LB Tennessee Titans
David Long Jr. has been the best option at LB for the Titans this season. The poor play of Rashaan Evans and injury to Jayon Brown has opened up a full-time role for the former West Virginia Mountaineer. David Long has delivered at least 98% of snaps in each of the last four games while averaging 13.5 fantasy points per game. This season, the Buffalo Bills offense has been more committed to the run, especially in games where they’ve had leads in the second half. In those games, opposing teams, linebackers are collecting at least 7 tackles per game over their last three games.
