Next Man Up: Regular Season Week 13

Each and every week, players across the NFL suffer injuries. This weekly article will explore the injuries that affect your dynasty squads. We will briefly discuss the injured players themselves and the players who stand to benefit or suffer. In order to make them easier to follow, we will break down the injuries by division. Without further ado, let us examine the Pre-Season Week 12 injuries and the next men up.

AFC East

Are the Patriots in a pickle?

New England wide receiver Jakobi Myers was forced from his team’s Week 12 loss with a shoulder injury. Team officials have indicated that the injury is minor. The Patriots have been as tight-lipped as usual with information about the health of their top receiver. We should have a good idea soon, as the Patriots have a Thursday Night date with the division rival Bills on tap. If for some reason, Meyers is unable to go, New England would turn to DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholar, and Kendrick Bourne as their top weapons for quarterback Mac Jones.

New England running back Damien Harris was knocked from his team’s Thanksgiving game with a thigh injury. Harris was spotted on crutches after the game. Harris will surely be out for his team’s Thursday night contest against Buffalo. His absence will vault Rhamondre Stevenson into a must-start RB1 with many managers’ playoff chances on the line in Week 13. Fire Stevenson up with confidence despite the tough matchup.

A new Dolphin duo on the docket?

Miami running back Jeff Wilson left his team’s Week 12 victory with a leg injury. With starter Raheem Mostert already dealing with a knee injury of his own, this will be a situation to monitor. If neither of the Dolphin’s top two runners can gain clearance ahead of their matchup with San Francisco, then Miami would be left with a combination of Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin.

Jets get grounded

New York running back Michael Carter was forced from his team’s Week 12 victory with an ankle injury. Team officials have expressed early optimism that their starting runner will be available for their matchup against Minnesota. If Carter cannot gain clearance for some reason, the Jets would turn to some combination of Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight. It is also possible they could look to go back to James Robinson following his Week 12 gameday inactive designation.

AFC South

Foot trouble in Florida

Jacksonville running back Travis Etienne was knocked from his team’s dramatic Week 12 victory with an ankle injury. Following the game, team officials revealed that they believed Etienne could have gone back into the game had it been necessary. This likely means he will be fine with his team’s upcoming matchup with the Lions. However, if Etienne can’t gain clearance ahead of the game, Jacksonville would turn to a combination of JaMycal Hasty and Snoop Conner. Week 13 could also be the debut of former Rams starter Darrell Henderson.

AFC North

Steel City stumbles

Pittsburgh running back Najee Harris made an early exit from his team’s Week 12 victory on Monday Night Football with an abdominal injury. It is too early to tell if this injury will affect Harris’ availability for next week’s matchup with Atlanta. Usual #2, Jaylen Warren, is dealing with his own injury. As a result, the Steelers were forced to rely on a combination of Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland. They would carry the load if Harris can’t gain clearance for what, on paper, is a plus matchup.

AFC West

The AFC West emerged from Week 12 intact from a fantasy standpoint.

NFC East

The NFC East emerged from Week 12 without any major fantasy-relevant injuries.

NFC South

The NFC South escaped Week 12 without any fantasy-relevant injuries.

NFC North

Time to Pack it in?

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was knocked from his team’s Week 12 loss with a core injury. Team officials have been quiet about the exact nature of the injury, but it had the look of a rib injury. The two-time reigning MVP looks almost sure to miss some upcoming game action. With the Packers’ playoff hopes looking all but dead, you would expect team officials to play it safe with their franchise player. This means former first-round pick Jordan Love will see some elusive live-game action. He will theoretically be a downgrade for the Packer’s skill players, but at this point, we really don’t know what Love has to offer. He will be an interesting play in Superflex leagues down the stretch for as long as Rodgers sits.

Windy City woes

Chicago wide receiver Darnell Mooney suffered an ugly ankle injury in his team’s Week 12 loss. The Bear’s top receiver was rolled up from behind while making a block on a running play. Unfortunately for Mooney and the Bears, the injury was, in fact, serious. Subsequent testing revealed ligament damage to his ankle, which will require season-ending surgery. The Bears will now rely on Chase Claypool as the no.1, supported by Byron Pringle, Dante Pettis, and others. Claypool and tight end Cole Kmet will be the only pass catchers worth playing in Chicago as anything but the most desperate of plays.

NFC West

Bay blues

San Francisco running back Elijah Mitchell suffered a knee injury in his team’s Week 12 victory. Mitchell had only recently returned from a knee injury he suffered in Week 1 against Chicago. Team officials have announced that he suffered another knee injury that will likely cost him 6-8 weeks. Newly acquired starter Christian McCaffrey also suffered some irritation to his knee, according to team officials, despite the fact CMC finished out the game. It is possible that McCaffrey could be on a pitch count next week against Miami, meaning some potential touches for rookie Jordan Mason. Keep an eye on news about the practice reps for the 49ers backfield throughout the week.
