NFL Training Camp News & Notes – NFC Edition

Here at DynastyNerds, we got you covered! We are less than a week away from the Hall Of Fame game and have a week of NFL training camps in the books. This can be a tough week for dynasty managers as we go from no news to overstimulation of practice videos, injuries, and beat reporter speculations. Let’s sift through the information and highlight top need-to-know nuggets from the past week. Here are some of the top pieces of NFL training camp news.

Trouble for Antonio Gibson

Antonio Gibson has already been dealing with a hamstring injury this summer, and now he is feeling the squeeze of a crowded running back room. The injury caused him to work on the side during OTAs, which has continued into training camp. The team placed a very high priority on retaining J.D. McKissic, and reports have been very positive about rookie Brian Robinson. The Antonio Gibson breakout season we are waiting for might not be happening this year.

Trey Lance’s Favorite Target

The San Francisco 49ers have officially permitted Jimmy Garoppolo to seek a trade. The Trey Lance era is ready to kick off in 2022. Could Brandon Aiyuk emerge as his favorite target? Deebo Samuel works off the side at training camp as he deals with contract extension talks. That leaves more time for the Trey Lance to Brandon Aiyuk connection to get dialed in. Lance has a much bigger arm than Garoppolo, so we should see a more vertical element to the 49ers’ offense this year.

Rodgers New Number One

Allen “Hall of Famer” Lazard. All jokes aside, can Lazard step into the role Davante Adams leaves behind in Green Bay? They are pretty big shoes to fill as the former Packer leaves behind 169 targets from his 2021 campaign. Out of all of the receivers on the roster, just Lazard and Randall Cobb have had meaningful playing time with Aaron Rodgers. Lazard might be a nice piece to add to a win-now squad before preseason begins.

Adam Trautman Breakout Season?

Perhaps the fantasy industry was a year too early on Adam Trautman. The third-year tight-end has had plenty of time to learn the system, and now two off-seasons working with quarterback Jameis Winston. His athleticism made many fantasy analysts call him a tight-end sleeper last year, which remains the same. Currently flying under the radar at TE36 according to Underdog bestball ADP, he might even be on your waiver wire. A definite must stash before the preseason begins.

Light Lenny?

Leonard Fournette and offseason hate. Name a more iconic duo. After he reportedly entered training camp weighing in at 265, the former first-round pick is now down to 244 pounds and resuming right where he left off with Tom Brady. He was able to finish as RB6 in full PPR last season, and now would be the perfect time for a contender to try to grab him as an excellent third option at the running back position.

First Lost Season

In less than good news for the defending NFC South champs, center Ryan Jensen may be the first casualty of the 2022 season. He went down yesterday with a knee injury, and things are not looking good. If out for the year, that would mean Tampa Bay has lost three out of its starting five offensive linemen from next year, all on the line’s interior. Free agent options would still be available if Jensen were to be done for the season.

The Rookie To Own In Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers had two first-round picks in the 2022 NFL draft and declined to use either one on a receiver to replace Davante Adams. They drafted Christian Watson in the second round and Romeo Doubs in the fourth. It is Doubs that has been lighting training camp on fire. As we know, Aaron Rodgers likes to rely on a receiver he can trust. Can Doubs be the early leader in the clubhouse out of the rookie pass catchers? His price is lower than Christian Watson and worth inquiring about in your dynasty leagues.
