Hey Nerds! The DynastyNerds writers are here to provide you with weekly starts and sits. We will be making our recommendations based on weekly consensus PPR rankings from FantasyPros. Here is our squad and the position groups they will be covering to help you each week. Follow us, friend us, tweet us. We look forward to hearing from you!
- QB: Tyler Grzegorek (@tyler_grez)
- RB: Gage Bridgford (@gbridgfordnfl)
- WR: Tristan Cook (@tristancook_)
- TE: Mychal Warno (@dynastydadmike)
- FLEX: Ethan Wyatt (@DynastyWildcat)
One thing to keep in mind when making your start/sit decisions, it will ALWAYS depend on who your other options are. The players listed below are WRs that I expect to finish above/below their respective rankings. But, it doesn’t mean you need to take them out of (or put them into) your lineup unless your alternatives are worth it.
NOTE: Rankings are based on a 12-team PPR league. So, saying WR2 means top 24, or TE1 means top 12, etc. and are pulled from Fantasy Pros consensus expert rankings.
Week 4 was a good week. OBJ and Parker were both ‘starts’ and performed well. Slayton was a ‘sit’ and struggled against the Rams, as did the entire Giants offense. Boyd had a solid week, but not quite as good as I expected. And finally, Allen Robinson and Terry McLaurin did slightly better than I expected. I’m still hoping for this week to go better, but last week went well.
JuJu Smith-Schuster VS PHI – WR 27
Week 4 | WR n/a | FPts: n/a | Tgts: n/a | Rec: n/a | Yds: n/a | TDs: n/a
To begin this week, I have JuJu Smith-Schuster as my first ‘start.’ With the return of Big Ben, JuJu has looked good so far in 2020. After this impromptu bye week in Week 4, I expect a strong performance for JuJu against the Eagles. In his last game, he posted a moderate 4 catches for 43 yards but was able to get into the endzone.
The Eagles defense hasn’t been particularly good against the pass this year, especially against higher-powered offenses. They allowed nearly 600 total passing yards in their games against the Rams and Bengals. I expect JuJu to finish above his WR 27 ranking.
Darius Slayton @ DAL – WR 25
Week 4 | WR 57 | FPts: 7.8 | Tgts: 7 | Rec: 3 | Yds: 48 | TDs: 0
Next, I am anticipating a bounce-back week for Darius Slayton and the Giants. I know they have struggled as an offense both with and without Saquon Barkley this season, but they are getting the Dallas defense that has played poorly.
Slayton has dominated the receiving production for the Giants so far in 2020. He has nearly double the next closest receiver’s yards and has accounted for the Giants only two receiving TDs. I know the Giants haven’t done much on the offensive side of the ball, but when they are able, it is because of Slayton. I am expecting a good week in Week 5.
LaViska Shenault Jr. @ HOU – WR 36
Week 4 | WR 31 | FPts: 14.1 | Tgts: 6 | Rec: 5 | Yds: 86 | TDs: 0
Next, we have Jags rookie WR LaViska Shenault. He is one of only 4 rookies (Lamb, Jeudy, Jefferson) ranked in the top 40 WRs so far this season. Shenault was a much less hyped prospect coming out of Colorado than the other three players, but he seems to have found a consistent role in the Jags offense. Shenault is utilized in many different ways in this offense, and I expect this to continue against the Texans.
Jamison Crowder VS ARI – WR 35
Week 4 | WR 18 | FPts: 17.4 | Tgts: 10 | Rec: 7 | Yds: 104 | TDs: 0
The first player that I am aggressively trying to avoid is Jamison Crowder. I know we’ve seen him be a reliable target for Sam Darnold when they are both on the field. But, Sam Darnold won’t be on the field this week. Instead, the Jets will be turning to Joe Flacco, and I will subsequently be turning elsewhere for fantasy WR help. I really don’t want to be counting on a Joe Flacco led offense to help my fantasy team.
Russell Gage VS CAR – WR 34
Week 4 | WR 87 | FPts: 4.0 | Tgts: 3 | Rec: 2 | Yds: 22 | TDs: 0
My next ‘sit’ is Falcons WR Russell Gage. I’m not exactly sure why there is so much love for Gage this week. I understand that Julio Jones is potentially or even likely going to miss this game. But, for me, that gives a boost to Calvin Ridley and Hayden Hurst. If there were a name to be focusing on at WR other than Calvin Ridley, I would look to Olamide Zaccheaus. Not that I think he is deserving of being ranked at WR 34, but he looked much more involved than Gage on Monday night. I think you likely have better options than Gage. I’m avoiding him.
Terry McLaurin VS LAR – WR 15
Week 4 | WR 10 | FPts: 21.8 | Tgts: 14 | Rec: 10 | Yds: 118 | TDs: 0
I know I had McLaurin as a ‘sit’ last week, and he proved me wrong. But, I am once again worried about him this week. Not only will be squaring off with Jalen Ramsey and the Rams defense, but he now has Kyle Allen throwing him the ball. I think McLaurin is a very talented WR, but I don’t want to be counting on a backup QB throwing the ball against one of the best CBs in the NFL if I can avoid it. I’m sitting Terry McLaurin if I have any other serviceable option.
Jarvis Landry VS IND – WR 32
Week 4 | WR 24 | FPts: 15.3 | Tgts: 6 | Rec: 5 | Yds: 48 | TDs: 0
Finally, I have Jarvis Landry on the ‘sit’ list this week. Last week’s total fantasy points look good, but his long TD pass to OBJ significantly aided it. Landry hasn’t been a focal point of the Browns passing game, as he is on pace for career-lows in basically every statistical category. And now, this week, they face off against the league’s best pass defense in 2020. I’m looking elsewhere.
That’s it for week 5, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter (@tristancook_) if you have any specific questions for who I would start. There are also weekly office hours in the Facebook group on Sunday mornings before the early games kick-off. There are a handful of writers that will answer all the questions posted to the thread, so you are usually able to get a few different takes on your situation. Make sure to come back next week to see how these picks turned out. Good luck!
