Justin Fields – Bruised Ribs
We’ve seen a few of these injuries this season. This is largely a pain tolerance issue for Fields. I would expect Chicago to play it safe with their franchise QB to not rush him back for meaningless games. Regular season reps are valuable for a young rookie QB, so I would expect him to be back at some point. I would expect him to be out on Thanksgiving and back in Week 13.
Aaron Rodgers – Toe
Aaron Rodgers developed a toe injury this week. Reports described the injury as more painful than turf toe. Turf toe is extremely painful and limiting on its own. The PAckers expect Rodgers will continue to play through the pain for the rest of the season. This may limit his mobility, or, in the event of a blowout, Rodgers may get more likely to get some rest.
Chris Carson – Neck Fusion
This wasn’t an in-week injury. Nonetheless, it deserves a comment in this article. Quite possibly, the most significant neck fusion in the NFL in recent memory is Peyton Manning, who had multiple levels fused and dealt with some lingering weakness after. Carson is reportedly waiting some time to get his fusion done and would be ready by late spring. Any spinal fusion takes several months to heal fully. The biggest concern on this injury is the healing time and integrity of the fusion come time to put pads on in 2022. It’s not out of consideration that Carson is not ready for contact at the start of the 2022 season.
Michael Carter – High Ankle Sprain
The reported timeline for Carter is about three weeks, which seems a bit optimistic. Running backs require much more power and change of direction than more straight-line NFL athletes. Therefore I would expect him to miss about 4-5 weeks. If he does come back within 2-3 weeks, I would expect his explosiveness and agility to be significantly affected. Count on other options for your fantasy playoffs.
Jamal Agnew – Hip Dislocation
Surgery may likely be indicated for Agnew to repair any labral or other soft tissue damage to the hip joint. This can be career-ending for some individuals. Hip dislocations are much more traumatic than shoulder dislocations due to the inherent stability of the hip joint; the socket is very deep in the hip vs. shallow in the shoulder. The tradeoff for more stability is less mobility. I would not expect Agnew to be ready for the 2022 season and to start on the PUP.
CeeDee Lamb – Concussion
With the Cowboys playing Thanksgiving, he is not expected to be cleared from the concussion protocol. If he isn’t ready to go Week 13, then we may begin to worry about longer-term effects of his injury. For now, count on him out for week 12 and hope he clears by next week.
Adam Trautman – MCL Sprain
An IR stint is likely in Trautman’s future with a projected timeline of 4-6 weeks of missed time. Don’t plan on him being much of an option, if at all, for the fantasy playoffs. He should be ready to go after this off-season.
