That’s Going to Leave a Mark – Week 4 Rehab and Recovery

@johnnybgoodeFF takes a look at the fantasy relevant week 4 injuries and provides insight on what you can expect for recovery and return!

The season is ¼ over and the injuries are starting to add up. Here’s a recap from Week 4:

Teddy Bridgewater – Concussion

Bridgewater landed in the concussion protocol, so his progress will need to be monitored throughout the week with regards to when he can return to the field. This injury becomes concerning only if Bridgewater continues to have symptoms past the expected recovery timeline of 1-2 weeks.

Jimmy Garoppolo – Calf

Garoppolo left the game with a calf injury. While reports indicate he could play this week, it’s expected for him to miss a couple of weeks. While not a significant injury for Garoppolo, this could be all Trey Lance needs to take over at the QB1 in this offense. This isn’t believed to be a strain, so if he were to come back there wouldn’t be the same concern for re-injury as a strained calf.

Joe Mixon – Sprained Ankle

Mixon left the game last week with what was later identified as an ankle sprain and never returned. Listed as week to week he has a shot to play this week. It’s likely he misses one week and then is back Week 6. This originally looked like it could have been a high ankle sprain, but he seems to have avoided that. His status going forward is unaffected by this injury. This will be more fuel to the fire unfairly classifying Mixon as injury prone, even though he has missed fewer games over the last two years than other RBs frequently ranked higher than him.

David Montgomery – Knee Hyperextension

David Montgomery avoided major knee injury this week. He has a 4-5 week timetable for return, but at least this isn’t a season ending injury. Long term, I would not expect this to limit him once he does return. This will take several weeks just to feel better, and then he will have to start to get the knee ready for football again. I am more concerned about a strain (ex: hamstring) once he does return than a re-injury of the knee itself

DJ Chark – Broken ankle

DJ Chark’s season is over and his dynasty outlook remains unknown. Coming off a major injury/surgery, and possibly on a new team, he is a tough bet for 2022 and beyond. It’s possible his value is at a low until we known more on his landing spot. From a recovery perspective, I would expect him ready to go Week 1.

Will Fuller – Broken Finger

Death, taxes, and a Will Fuller injury; the three things fantasy managers can count on. At the time of this writing, his projected time missed is unknown. This largely depends on the severity of the fracture and the location. A safe estimation is approximately 2-4 weeks. Even when he returns this could be bothersome for several weeks following.
