After Week 7, it is time to evaluate if your team is a contender or a pretender. If you are a contender, continue to add players who can help you win week in and week out. If you are a pretender, it is time to enter a rebuild or retool and go after young dynasty waiver wire adds or high upside waiver wire adds that you can trade for draft capital. Even receiving a 2022 3rd for a waiver wire add is a major win as a rebuilding team. In this waiver wire article, I list players that can work for both contenders and rebuilding teams. Always be adding!
Rashard Higgins, WR, Cleveland Browns
Rostered in 10% of MFL Leagues (5-15% of FAAB)
Higgins played well in week 7 with 6 receptions for 110 yards. Higgins benefited from Baker having a breakout fantasy football game, but Higgins received a third of Baker’s receiving yards. The Browns also believe that Odell Beckham Jr. has a severe knee injury, so Higgins can be the WR2 on the team behind Jarvis Landry (who he outproduced in week 7). Also, Higgins has played in 50% or more of the Browns snaps in the last 3 weeks. I would spend 5-15% of my FAAB on adding Higgins, and if I am a contender, I will spend closer to 15% for Higgins.
Marquez Callaway, WR, New Orleans Saints
Rostered in 3% of MFL leagues (1-5% of FAAB)
This week was the week of the WR breakouts, and Marquez Callaway had a great game. He had 8 receptions for 75 yards and was the WR25 in Week 7. I would not spend a lot of FAAB on Callaway because he benefited from Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders missing Week 7. But Michael Thomas will miss some games with a hamstring injury. Callaway has also been on the field for 50% of the snaps in the last two weeks and has over six targets each week. I would spend 1-5% of my FAAB on Callaway.
Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots
Rostered in 8% of MFL Leagues (1-5% of FAAB)
Jakobi Meyers finally produced in 2020 with a 10 PPR game with four receptions on six targets and 60 yards. Meyers also had 79% of the snaps in Week 7 for the Patriots. Meyers is a solid end of bench stash with upside for the remainder of the season, but I would not be spending a lot of FAAB on him. I would spend 1-3% of my FAAB on Jakobi Meyers.
Mike Glennon, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Rostered in 2% of MFL leagues (1-5% of FAAB in SF dynasty leagues)
According to Ian Rappaport, Minshew is at risk of being replaced by Mike Glennon, the only other QB on the active roster. The article was misleading because it used a quote by Doug Marrone that said he’d be “naïve not to say” it’s a possibility, which is not the same as saying the team is thinking about benching Minshew. Still, in any dynasty Superflex league, it is important to add backup QBs with starting potential, so I would look to spend 1-5% of my FAAB in a Superflex dynasty league to add Glennon.
Jake Luton, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Rostered in 2% of MFL Leagues (1-5% of FAAB in SF dynasty leagues)
Jake Luton is the QB3 on the Jaguars, and he is a rookie drafted in the 6th round of the NFL draft. As I said above, I am always looking to add potential starting QB, and if the Jaguars bench Minshew, Luton could easily find himself as the starter like Ryan Finley did last year. I am not saying that Luton is the QB of the future, but sometimes QBs surprise us and blow up; just look at Minshew in 2019. I would add Luton, especially if I am a rebuilding team, and I would spend 1-5% of my FAAB on him.
