The New York Giants are coming off of yet another disappointing season, finishing with a record of 4-13. However, there is some hope with the hiring of offensive Guru Brian Daboll as the head coach that the Giant’s offense could be sneaky in fantasy football.
QUARTERBACKS
Daniel Jones
The Giants elected to pass on QB in what was deemed a weak class by many and instead used their picks on other positions. That leaves Jones to be the clear-cut starter for the team once again. He has sometimes flashed an excellent ceiling for fantasy managers, but it has been highly inconsistent. He has struggled to stay healthy and has had trouble with turnovers.
The Giants declined the fifth-year option of Jones, so this is a true make-or-break season for him. I think he can provide some low-end QB1 fantasy weeks due to his rushing upside. Jones is very intriguing in Superflex or 2QBs leagues, but with the lack of job security, he’s tough to buy in a dynasty league. If you roster Jones, he’s likely worth more on your team than in a trade. If all breaks right and Jones clicks with Daboll, I can see a top-12 finish in his range of outcomes.
Tyrod Taylor
The Giants also brought in Taylor on a 2-year $11 million deal. The 33-year-old should provide great insurance for the often injured Daniel Jones. If Taylor is on your dynasty waiver wire, you should pick him up. His rushing ability would make him a must-start QB in Superflex leagues if Jones were to go down or struggle.
RUNNING BACKS
Saquon Barkley
He is finally healthy and ready to dominate. Barkley started to come along last season before a fluke injury derailed his season. He started the season slowly coming back from ACL surgery, then had two games of 20+ fantasy points before getting hurt yet again. The ankle injury caused him to miss four games and never be the same for the rest of the season.
In 2022, Barkley looks to bounce back. He’s finally healthy and has been looking great in camp. The new coaching staff has discussed how they plan to use him heavily in the passing game. He has legitimate RB1 overall upside. I expect him to be an RB1 for fantasy managers this season and a key cog to championship runs. I’d look to buy if a nervous dynasty manager wants out on Barkley.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Kenny Golladay
Golladay enters the second year of his four-year mega-deal after a disappointing first season for Big Blue. Golladay played 14 games in 2021 and failed to score a touchdown. He was never on the same page as Jones, and the early reports in camp suggest that hasn’t changed.
Golladay is a talented receiver, but he isn’t much of a separator which is not an excellent fit for his quarterback. I don’t expect Golladay to return much value to his dynasty managers once again. I could see him being fourth in the pecking order for targets behind Kadarius Toney, Wan’Dale Robinson, and even Saquon Barkley. While that may be a stretch, and he can end up his second option in the passing, it’s not something I would count on. Maybe the new staff can get the most out of Kenny G. The talent is still there.
Kadarius Toney
Toney enters his sophomore season after a rookie year that includes some serious flashes of a potential superstar wide receiver. In Toney’s second NFL start, he torched the Cowboys for 189 receiving yards on ten catches. He couldn’t build on an outstanding performance because he would go on to get injured the following week. He would then deal with various injuries throughout the rest of his rookie campaign and was never able to get it right.
Now, Toney is fully healthy and participating in camp. With Daboll calling the shots on offense, Toney could be in for a monster season. In his rookie season, he showed he is one of the best players with the ball in his hands, and I think Daboll will make that a focal point of the offense.
Toney can do many things well, including getting some gadget plays designed for him and lining up outside. If he can stay healthy, I can see him earning 110-125 targets and being a true breakout fantasy player. According to Keeptradecut, Toney is ranked as the dynasty WR40. A smash buys before the season.
Wan’Dale Robinson
Many were surprised when the New York Giants selected Robinson in the second round of the NFL Draft due to his lack of size. Robinson is listed at just 5’8″ and 185 pounds but is super talented. He torched SEC opponents in 2021, posting an insane stat line of 104 catches, 1,334 yards, and seven touchdowns for Kentucky.
He also added over 600 rushing yards in his three collegiate seasons. Robinson is another weapon Daboll should have fun with. In camp, he’s already running with the first team offense, getting run all over the field and even in the backfield. I’d expect Robinson to have a significant role out of the gate in his rookie season. The elite production profile and the Day 2 draft capital scream potential fantasy stud.
TIGHT ENDS
Daniel Bellinger
The Giants lost Evan Engram to the Jaguars in Free agency and didn’t do much to at the position to replace him. They used a Day 3 pick on San Diego State TE Daniel Bellinger, who has been getting all of the reps with the first team at camp. They did, however, sign veteran Ricky Seals-Jones early in the off-season, but he has been getting the majority of his work with the backups.
Bellinger is a very intriguing dynasty stash and potential contributor in year one. In four seasons at San Diego State, he totaled 68 receptions, 771 yards, and five touchdowns. While those aren’t eye-popping numbers, his athletic profile is very interesting, posting a speed score in the 88th percentile. It’s worth a dart throw on a player who should see the field for most snaps in a TE-friendly offense as a rookie.
Conclusion
The New York Giants have been a huge disappointment over the last few years, but things are changing in New York with a new regime in town. This Could be the year they exceed expectations and help fantasy managers win games. At the very least, they have some super exciting players on offense that will be fun to roster in dynasty. Brighter days are ahead in MetLife.
