Devy Spotlight: Kendall Milton

Death, Taxes, and Georgia running backs taking over the NFL – the next man up is Kendall Milton. With James Cook and Zamir White’s departure to the NFL, many carries are opening up. To this point, he hasn’t had a chance to prove his total ability, but the flashes are great.

The Georgia offense shouldn’t be changing too much, either. They will remain a run-focused team, maybe even more so. Stetson Bennett is still at quarterback, and the loss of Jermaine Burton leaves a hole in the passing game. Milton, along with Kenny McIntosh, will be the cog in the machine of this Georgia offense.

Milton should be able to separate himself, and then we can see what he can do with a full workload.

Next Man Up at Georgia

We know Georgia does nothing but send RBs to the pros, but here is a number to think about. Since Kirby Smart took over at Georgia, they have sent six RBs to the NFL. With Milton and McIntosh going, he will be at eight real soon. That impressive number made the 4-star recruit committed to Georgia in 2020. He nearly went to Alabama, another RB factory, but it seems going to Georgia was the right choice.

Milton has seen just 94 touches in his career in a seemingly limited role over two years. The names we mentioned ahead of him will limit that work, but now it may pay off. He will be coming into 2022 with a full tank of gas which could make for a fun season. His play style may not be the most fantasy-friendly choice, but he is fun.

What You See When Watching Him

In Milton’s short amount of film we have at our disposal, one thing that stood out was his vision. His speed needs to be showcased more, and his pass-catching needs work. His vision will never let him down. The vision, paired with his processing speed, allows him to break out of the first two levels of the defense. If Milton can develop the speed to pair with that, then the sky could be the limit. He is truly gifted with his vision, and on top of his processing, there is one other trait that can prove to be elite in the NFL.

When Le’Veon Bell was rolling and being an absolute workhorse, he had one trait that made him genuinely elite – patience. You would see him hesitate for a split second at the line, read the defense, and then attack. I saw a lot of that from Milton when I watched his film. We already eluded to his vision, but the patience to digest the defensive zones and then make his way through could set him apart this year. The last Georgia RB to have this was Nick Chubb. If he is half the player Chubb turned into, then we should all be getting all the Milton shares we can.

Milton, at this point, is a huge projection, but it is one that I think we can do well. We know what he was in high school. We know what Georgia has done with its RBs. Outside of Elijah Holyfield, every single one has proven to have some fantasy value. If the draft were today, Milton would be a day three pick. By season’s end, though, we could see him be in the top half of round two.

Georgia football is always a must-watch every year, but the offense may be cringy at some points this year. Expect Milton to be the desert that saves the meal for this Georgia offense.
