Devy Stock Watch Week 3

Week 3 did not have many big matchups but there were still plenty of big performances. I will talk about players’ stock up, stock down, and players to keep an eye on. Let’s take a look at players that stood out in Week 3.

Week 3 did not have many marquee matchups. The only one with two top 25 teams was more of a defensive struggle between Miami and Texas A&M. Even with the lack of big matchups, there were plenty of big performances. Let’s look at the Devy Stock watch for Week 3.

Stock Up

Zach Evans, RB Ole Miss

  • Height- 5’11
  • Weight- 195
  • Draft Eligible- 2023
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: OVR 9; RB 4

The question about Evans has never been his talent but more constant production and supposed minor off-the-field issues. He transferred to Ole Miss and, through three games, has 317 rush yards and three touchdowns. He has two of three games with over 18 carries and looks like a back that can handle three downs of work. Many are high on Evans, and this year backs up that position as RB3 of the 2023 class.

Eric Gray, RB Oklahoma

  • Height- 5’9″
  • Weight- 206
  • Draft Eligible- 2023
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: OVR 77; RB 29

Many people put had high hopes for Gray with his transfer to Oklahoma. Instead, Kennedy Brooks took the lead in 2021, and Gray only finished with 641 yards. So far, in 2022, with the new coaching staff, he is the lead back with over 300 total yards and has two out of three games over 100 rushing yards. Gray does not have the size to be every down back, but what he is doing this year can put him on the radar to move up draft boards.

Brock Bowers, TE Georgia

  • Height- 6’4″
  • Weight- 230
  • Draft Eligible- 2024
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: OVR 22; TE 2

There is no question that Bowers is talented, and he is thought of highly of as the number two TD behind Michael Mayer. He had been off to a slow start, but against South Carolina, he had a breakout of over 100 yards and two touchdowns. The weight is a concern for the tight end position, but as long as Bowers continues to be such a playmaker, he will be high on boards in 2024.

Players To Keep Eye On

Charlie Jones- WR, Purdue

  • Height- 6’0
  • Weight- 188
  • Draft Eligible- 2023
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: Not Currently Ranked

Purdue received two transfers from Iowa this past year, and many, including myself, thought it would be Tyrone Tracy and not Jones making an impact. Jones has been excellent with 32 receptions, 474 yards, and five touchdowns in three games. He is being force-fed the ball and making big catch after big catch. Jones will not be a high draft pick, but as long as the production continues, he will get looks in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Michael Penix Jr, QB Washington

  • Height- 6’3″
  • Weight- 218
  • Draft Eligible- 2024
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: Not Currently Ranked

After the shortened 2020 season, Penix was trending up after a great season with Indiana. An injury cut his season short and caused him to struggle in 2021. Penix transferred to Washington, and so far, he looks like he has some of that magic back. He is back on the Devy radar with a ten-to-one TD to INT rate and a huge win against Michigan State. He needs to continue this all season, but he could work to a middle-round NFL pick.

Stock Down

Tyler Van Dyke, QB Miami

  • Height- 6’4
  • Weight- 224
  • Draft Eligible- 2023
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: OVR 30; QB 6

Last year, Van Dyke had a great season as the Miami starter with 25 TDs and only six interceptions. I was worried about his production with Josh Gattis coming in as offensive coordinator. Last year, Miami was ranked 100th in rush attempts per game, and so far this year, they are up to 29th. The lack of passing was a little concern, but Van Dyke had been efficient until the big test against Texas A&M. The offense could not get consistent movement and did not score a touchdown. As the season progresses, we will have to see if this was just a bump in the road or not.

Dontay Demus, WR Maryland

  • Height- 6’3
  • Weight- 217
  • Draft Eligible- 2023
  • Dynasty Nerds Ranking: OVR 90; WR 27

Dontay Demus was off to a great start in 2021 before an injury cost him the rest of the season. Demus was getting hyped to be a possible second-day draft prospect. He is back this year but has had a plodding start with only six receptions for 57 yards in three games. Although he is fourth in targets, the separation is only five targets. It will be interesting to watch as Maryland starts Big 10 play if Demus can recreate his magic from early in 2021.
