Derek Carr, Concussion/Shoulder – Week to Week

Few players have cleared the concussion protocol this year after just one week. Luckily for Carr, he has a bye in Week 11, so he may be ready for Week 12. Watch his progression through the protocol over the bye week.

Taylor Heinicke, Hamstring – 1-2 Weeks

Atlanta has a bye in Week 11, so Heinicke may return for Week 12. Most mild hamstring strains can take two to four weeks to allow a full return to sport. I would put Heinicke 50/50 for Week 12. I fully expect him to be the starter when he is ready.

Deshaun Watson, Ankle Sprain – Week to Week

Watson left the game briefly in Week 10 with what appears to be an ankle sprain rather than a high ankle sprain. He was able to return and finish the game, however. If he’s active, his mobility will likely be affected. All signs at this point point toward him playing Week 11, even Watson himself stating this.

Alexander Mattison, Concussion – Week to Week

As mentioned with Carr, most players are missing at least one game this year. Expect this trend to continue with Mattison this week as he progresses through the concussion protocol.

Keenan Allen, Shoulder – Week to Week

Allen landed hard on his left shoulder, which sent him briefly to the sideline. He returned and was involved in the offense, so he is unlikely to miss time. This was to his left shoulder, not his right shoulder, which has some significant signs of previous AC separation. Allen has some history here, so he is not unfamiliar with the amount of discomfort he will need to play through.

Michael Thomas, Knee – 2-4 Weeks

At this point, the extent of the injury suffered by Thomas is unknown. There appears to be some possible MCL involvement, which would put Thomas out for three to four weeks. The Saints have a bye, which gives them more time to evaluate the short-term availability of their receiver.
