In dynasty fantasy football, every roster spot matters when building toward a championship. As we head into Week 8, knowing when to keep, trade, or cut a player can make a significant difference in both your short-term success and long-term roster value. In this article, we break down players worth holding onto, veterans you should consider trading while they still carry dynasty value, and roster cloggers you can move on from to make room for younger players with more upside. Dynasty championships aren’t just about identifying talent—they’re about maximizing value, making calculated decisions, and knowing when it’s time to move on.

Please note that this article is focused toward 12-team leagues with 28-man rosters.

Keep | A.J. Brown | Week 8 Fantasy Football

It has been a disappointing start to A.J. Brown’s tenure in New England. However, I would not be looking to move Brown yet, and he is a strong hold for me. After missing 4 games with a high ankle sprain, Brown returned to the New England Patriots lineup in Week 6 and immediately showed he remains the top option in the passing attack, leading the team in targets. Despite catching just 3 of 10 targets for 27 yards against the New York Jets, Brown commanded a 34% target share. Brown followed that up with a 28% target share in Week 7. Also, Brown has 186 unrealized air yards since his return, the second-most in the NFL. High unrealized air yards are air yards on incomplete targets. They often serve as a positive regression indicator (buy-low signal) for downfield target volume, though they also correlate with uncatchable passes or higher-aDOT receiver profiles.

At 29 years old, Brown still has plenty of potential to deliver WR1 production, particularly with Drake Maye at quarterback. I’m focusing on his underlying usage and the fact that he is still working his way back from an injury. Selling Brown now would be selling at one of the lowest points of his NFL career.

Keep | Cam Skattebo | Week 8 Keep Trade Cut

What a difference a week makes in dynasty fantasy football. After not receiving a single carry, Cam Skattebo managers were panicked. Now, he is becomes an easy keep for me in dynasty, especially following the latest moves in the New York Giants’ backfield. The Giants released Najee Harris, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. is now headed to injured reserve with a hamstring injury that will sideline him for at least four games.

In Week 7, Skattebo rushed for a career-high 124 yards and also found the end zone in a New York Giants win over the Houston Texans. While Devin Singletary should still see opportunities, Skattebo has a chance to establish himself as the Giants’ primary running back.

Trade For | Chig Okonkwo | Week 8 Fantasy Football

If you are a contender and in need of some cheaper tight end help, I suggest Chig Okonkwo. Okonkwo got off to a slow start to the season before missing time with a hamstring injury. However, the 27-year-old picked up his production in his final two outings before Washington’s Week 7 bye, recording a combined 11 catches for 129 yards on 13 targets. I expect that production to continue with Terry McLaurin out for the rest of the season.

Using the Dynasty Nerds App, some recent trades involving Okonkwo include:

  • Chig Okonkwo for a 2027 3rd and Isaac TeSlaa
  • Chig Okonkwo for a 2027 3rd
  • Chig Okonkwo for Tank Dell

Trade Away | Devaughn Vele | Week 8 Keep Trade Cut

A player that I am looking to trade before his value takes a hit is Devaughn Vele. Vele has had a solid start to his 2026 season with 33 receptions for 348 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, making him the WR21 overall. However, I am not convinced his current production will continue into long-term dynasty value with the imminent debut of Jordyn Tyson. I believe that once Tyson is healthy and working his way into the offense, Vele could find himself competing for targets and snaps.

Another reason I’m looking to move Vele is his age, which can be easy to overlook because he’s only in his third NFL season. Vele is a sneaky 28-year-old receiver who came into the league at 26 with the Denver Broncos. I’d rather move him now for a younger receiver with greater long-term upside, or use him as part of a trade to acquire a more dependable long-term dynasty asset.

Cut | Jalen Tolbert | Week 8 Fantasy Football

Now it’s time to trim the fat from your dynasty teams. Jalen Tolbert may be a great football player, but he is clogging up my dynasty roster of a valuable spot that I can use elsewhere. After signing with the Miami Dolphins in the offseason, Tolbert had an opportunity to earn a role in a receiving corps that lost significant talent. Instead, he has recorded just 1 reception for 22 yards on 3 targets this season and has been a healthy scratch repeatedly.

Tolbert has been surpassed on the Dolphins’ wide receiver pecking order by Malik Washington, Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr. At 13% rostership, it is tough when a veteran receiver can’t even earn a spot on the game-day roster making it difficult to justify holding him in a 12-team league with 28-man rosters.

Cut | Devontez Walker | Week 8 Keep Trade Cut

Devontez Walker is a another player I’m comfortable cutting from my dynasty roster. Although Walker has flashed big-play ability in Baltimore’s offense, he has yet to establish himself as a consistent contributor. Through 6 games in 2026, Walker has recorded just 4 receptions for 75 yards and 1 touchdown. Now entering his third NFL season, Walker has failed to top 48 receiving yards in a game and has never had more than 2 receptions in a game.

Still at 18% rostered in dynasty leagues, I’d rather use Walker’s roster spot on a wide receiver with potential upside, a backup running back who could inherit an increased role, or a developmental tight end earning targets.
